Flocculant is also now as coagulant and aids the filter in trapping the suspended particles in the water that are causing it to look cloudy.
Flocculants can be used two different ways:
- Full Floc is when you add the chemical to the water and recirculate it for an hour or so and then shut the system down. Make sure the filter valve is on recirculate and not filtration. After about 24 to 48 the debris will settle to the bottom allowing you to vac the water out to waste. Use a external pump so the debris does not reenter the pool water. Palmetto Pool and Spas have trained technicians and the equipment necessary to perform this process for you. If you need help with this process please do not hesitate to call us (864) 546-1257. The flocculant works quicker in a higher PH (around 8.0).
- Filter Aid is when the flocculant is used during the filtration process. The flocculant works by bringing the particulate matter and the organisms out of solution. This process is called coagulation. Then it will bring these two solids together which is called flocculation. Once this process takes place it will make it easier for the filter to trap it. These particles will stay on the top of the sand in the filter until a backwash is performed. Once the backwash is performed, you will need to add more of the flocculant to the pool.
